Richard C. “Dick” Boockmeier

PORTAGE  --  Richard C. “Dick” Boockmeier, age 72, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2014. 

He was born on March 26, 1941 in Chilton the son of Ted and Lillie (Becher) Boockmeier. He graduated from New Holstein High School in 1959 and Lakeland College in 1963. He served 4 years on active duty with the Army, with 1 year in Vietman. He then joined the Wisconsin Army National Guard serving with the 13th Evacuation Hospital, retiring as Lt. Colonel. He married Mary Cele Bremner in 1971. They moved to Portage in 1972 when he joined the Bremner Granite Company which he continued to own and operate. He was active in the Portage Curling Club, the Portage Country Club, the Elks Club, the American Legion-Richard Mulcahy ALP #47 and the Portage-Cleary-Krech VFW Post#1707.

He is survived by his wife Mary Cele; his son, Matthew and his wife, Vivian and their daughters, Emma and Sophia, Bloomington. MN, his son, Andrew and his wife, Annie and their daughters, Bridget and Lillian, Oak Park, IL; brother, John (Jan) Boockmeier, Holland, MI; sister-in-law, Barbara Boockmeier, Chicago, Il; further survived by several nieces, cousins and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Gary and Tom.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage. Graveside services with full military honors provided by the Portage area veterans at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 14, 2014 at St. Mary Cemetery in Portage.

In lieu of flowers, memorial funds will be established.
