Joyce Ruth Hunter Schutz

PORTAGE  --    Joyce Ruth Hunter Schutz, age 88, of Portage, formerly of Endeavor, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2015 at Tivoli in Portage.

Joyce was born on March 20, 1926 in Portage, Wisconsin, the daughter of Samuel and Elma (Whitney) Hunter.  She was a 1944 graduate of Portage High School.  Joyce was married to Harlan H. Schutz on April 20, 1945, in Portage.  They became parents to Karla A. Schutz Fosnot on June 10, 1947, and to Richard H. Schutz on January 8, 1954.  Joyce was a member and held many offices in the Briggsville United Methodist Church.  She was a past member of the Portage Country Club, Women’s Civic League of Portage, and the Portage Curling Club.  Joyce loved her flower gardens, nature’s beauty, and beautiful music of all kinds.  She has always loved the color green, the color of life, and especially loved to entertain.  She loved golfing and watching the Packers.  Joyce has loved God and Jesus Christ in her life since she was a tiny child in Sunday School. 

Joyce is survived by her loving family,  daughter, Karla (Richard) Fosnot, Portage;  her son, Richard (Kim) Schutz, Endeavor;  seven grandchildren, Lisa Stroemer, Nieto, Texas, Jason Stroemer, Poynette, Matthew Fosnot, Stevens Point, Rachael Fosnot, Madison, Rebecca (Fosnot) Parker, Woodland Park, CO, Lindsay Schutz, Endeavor, and Michael Schutz, Endeavor;  four great-grandchildren, Nichole Fosnot, Shawn Stroemer, Emil Petersen, Jr., and James Pope;  five great-great-grandchildren, Christian Murry, Makayla Fosnot, Lillian Stroemer, Kinsley Payton, and Anastasia Petersen;  her brothers and sister, Samuel (Helen) Hunter, Portage, Beth (John) Murray, Madison, and James (Charlene) Hunter, Sparta;  many nieces and nephews;  many beloved lifetime friends, bridge club girls, and her wonderful church family.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Elma Hunter, her beloved husband, Harlan on February 26, 2004, her nieces, Angela, Rhonda and Patty, her nephew, Mark, and an infant great-great-grandson, Aiden Robinson.

Private family services will be held.  Memorial services for friends and family will be at later date at Briggsville United Methodist Church, to be announced in the spring.  The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to each and every staff member of Tivoli and Southern Care Hospice, and especially Dr. Amy Strain for her care and support.  Each of you all made a huge difference in her life.
