Carl C. Paulsen

BRIGGSVILLE/WISCONSIN DELLS --  Carl C. Paulsen, age 75, died on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at UW Hospital in Madison.

Carl was born on February 1, 1939 in New Haven Township, the son of Nels and Ruth Ann (Brickwell) Paulsen.  He graduated from Portage High School in 1957.  He continued his post secondary education receiving his Masters degree in 1968 from UW-Platteville.  Carl married Sandra Schmidt on July 30, 1966.     He served his country in the United States Army, serving active duty at Fort Lewis, in Washington State.  He was a member of the National Guard 32nd Division in Portage.  Carl taught Agriculture at Janesville Craig, Janesville Parker, Orfordville Parkview, and Blackhawk Technical College.  He and Sandy served as missionaries to Madagascar and Japan for several years before returning to Orfordville to raise their children.  In retirement he served as interim Pastor at Big Spring Congregational Church.  His actions and words lovingly served the Lord.  Carl was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed the harvest God provided.  He particularly loved fishing, hunting, and farming with his children and grandchildren.       

He is survived by his wife, Sandy Paulsen, of Wisconsin Dells; his children, Matthew (Amy Zuehlke) Paulsen, of Oconto, Sara (Brian) Garbe, of Janesville, and Mark (Caitie) Paulsen, Wisconsin Dells; his grandchildren, Jeffery, Don, Luke, Tanner, Riley, Bailey, and Trevor; his brothers-in-law, Gerald (Alaine) Schmidt, of Janesville, and Robert Schmidt, of Briggsville, other relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his infant sister, Annabell, and his brother-in-law, Donald Schmidt.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Big Spring Congregational Church, 373 Golden Court, Wisconsin Dells, WI 53965, with Rev. Robert Brandhagen officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Lewiston Township.  Visitation will be held on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the church.  The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family.
