Matthew E. Maass

LODI  /  PORTAGE  --  Matthew E. Maass, age 36, of Lodi, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Sauk Prairie Hospital.

Matt was born on October 26, 1977 in Oak Lawn, Illinois, the son of Edward A. and Noreen B. (Mrowca) Maass, Jr.  He graduated from Portage High School in 1996, and attended MATC.  Matt was an especially caring man.  He was always sending thoughtful cards and gifts to friends.  He went the extra mile to select a meaningful item or make a special card for a person.  When Matt paid his bills, he would always include a special note. 

He is survived by his mother, Noreen;  his sister, Allison (Matt) Ujcich; he loved his nephew, Mason the dog;  Grandma Maass;  aunts, uncles, cousins;  special friends, his pen pal, Mykeerah, and his bestie, Ariel;  other near relatives and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his Dad, Ed, Grandpa Maass, and his maternal grandparents, Pat and Ted Mrowca.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2014 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage.  A Time of Remembrance, when people can share memories of Matt, will follow from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.  Inurnment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tourette Syndrome Association, www.tsa-usa.org, or to the family, which will go towards a scholarship for Portage Community School District Special Education.
