Ruth A. Jahn

SOUTHAVEN, MS  /  PORTAGE  --    Ruth A. Jahn, age 89, passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Baptist Desoto Hospital in Southaven, MS, after a brief illness.

Ruth was born in Milwaukee on August 24, 1924 to Joseph and Marie (nee Miller) Waters and spent her childhood in West Allis, WI.  She met Herman Jahn of Baraboo, WI while visiting her sister, RoseMarie.  They married on September 29, 1945.  Ruth and Herman spent a number of years farming in Baraboo and Briggsville before moving to Portage in 1955.  Ruth worked for many years at the Modern Laundry and Dry Cleaners, and then for Portage Cleaners in Portage, WI. 

Ruth is survived by her children, Evelyn Schuette of Bradenton, FL, Herb (Jane) Jahn of Pardeeville, WI, Janice (Dennis) Fude of Fox Lake, WI, Kenneth (Marilyn) Jahn of Portage, WI, William (Kelly) Jahn of Neosho, WI, and Cindy Jahn of Southaven, MS;  her brother, William (Bev) Waters of Santa Barbara, CA;  her sisters, RoseMarie Koberstein of San Diego, CA and Genevieve (Dolly) Zeh of Dayton, OH;  her sister-in-law, Marguerite Jahn of Baraboo, WI.  She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kent, Matthew, Melissa, Pat, Tracy, Julie, Katie, Christine, Kari, Kevin, Ryan, Joseph, Nicholas, Jesse, Jason, Kirsten, and Naomi;  17 great-grandchildren;  3 great-great-grandchildren;  numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Herman L. Jahn, her parents, Marie and Joseph Waters, Sr., her mother and father-in-law, Lucinda and Herbert Jahn, her brothers, Ellword, Robert and Joseph, Jr., and their spouses, her brother-in-law, Raymond Jahn, and by two infant grandchildren, Witney and Stephanie Ruth Jahn.

Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon on Friday, June 6, 2014 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Portage, with the Rev. Alan Boeck officiating.  Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon on Friday at the church.

Ruth was a very special lady, always putting her family first, taking care of grandchildren and also great-grandchildren, helping out whenever she was asked.  Family and her Christian faith were always her first priority.  She will be missed by everyone who knew her.

Mom, we Love You.  We know you are with Dad together again.
