Penny (Slowey) Hanson

PORTAGE --  Penny (Slowey) Hanson, age 72, of Portage, died peacefully at home early Monday morning, July 21, 2014.  She was born on August 16, 1941 in Westfield, WI to Harold and Mary (Mussey) Slowey.  She was married on June 27, 1964 to Brian Hanson.

Penny is survived by her children, Chris (Matt) Czarick of Snellville, GA, Robin Hanson of Portage, WI, Bob Hanson of LaCrosse, WI, and Mike (Caitlin) Hanson of Clinton, MA;  grandchildren, Mary Corley Czarick, Katherine Czarick, Elizabeth Czarick and Tucker Czarick;  sisters, Jean Wasson, Pat Mitchell, Nancy (Jim) Hathaway, Sue Miller, and Kathy (Gary) Jepsen;  sister-in-law, Phyllis (Tom) Hamele;  and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Brian Hanson;  daughter, Pam Hanson; brothers-in-law, John Wasson, Jack Mitchell, and Robert Hanson;  sister-in-law, Julie LaRose;  parents and in-laws, Aldon and Lenore (Saltness) Hanson.

She devoted her life to her family and friends.  With Brian’s job, the family relocated to many states, but Wisconsin was always her home.  She and Brian enjoyed their retirement in Ferryville, WI.  She loved to play games, cards, and enjoyed crossword puzzles.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portage, with Fr. Gary Krahenbuhl presiding.  Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the church.  Inurnment will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 25, 2014 at Freeman Lutheran Church Cemetery in Ferryville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary Church and Freeman Lutheran Church.

The family would like to thank family and friends for their support and would like to extend a special thank you to Summer Schneller, her caretaker during her final weeks.
