Eldon J. “E.J.” Gunderson

ARLINGTON – Eldon J. “E.J.” Gunderson, age 61, died on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at his home in Arlington. 

Eldon was born on April 11, 1953, in Portage, the son of Oluf and Dorothy (Munk) Gunderson.  He graduated from Poynette High School in 1971.  He married Jacklynn Rockhill on October 23, 1976 at Windsor Congregational Church.  Eldon loved talking to people, playing cards, especially Euchre, shooting guns, and was a car enthusiast.  He served in the Arlington Fire Department and E.M.T. services. Eldon had been employed at Unimin Corporation for over 42 years.  He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Arlington.    

Survivors include his wife, Jacklynn Gunderson, of Arlington; his children, Nicholas Gunderson, and Jenifer Gunderson, both of Rio; his sisters, Rise Erickson, of Portage, Lael (Bob) Schumann, of Pardeeville, and Kris Gunderson (Elizabeth Poi), of Madison; his brother-in-law, Michael (Mary) Rockhill, of Poynette, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many close friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Oluf and Dorothy Gunderson, his brother, Olin Gunderson, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Albert and Phyllis Rockhill, and his brother-in-law, Jerome Erickson.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 27, 2014 at Arlington Cemetery, Hwy. Q, Arlington, with Rev. Marion Hendrickson officiating.  The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Poynette is assisting the family.
