Fred H. Cox

 

FORT ATKINSON  --  Fred H. Cox, age 84, died on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison.
Fred was born on July 30, 1929, in Wautoma, the son of Fred L. and Viola F. (Hocking) Cox.  He served his country in the United States Marine Corp during WWII.  Fred married Catherine Helen Griffin on June 15, 1949.  He enjoyed his world travels to England, Ireland and China.  Fred loved his two dogs, as well as hunting and fishing.  He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.     
He is survived by his wife, Helen Cox; his children, Christine (Joe) Buckner, Fred (Janet) Cox, Jean Cox, and James (Mary Jill) Cox; his grandchildren, Joe, Jamie, Kevin, Robert, Adam, and David Buckner, H. Laura Cox, Tracie Arnold, Kurt and Kyle Cox, Jason Cox and Sara Hayes; 27 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Laura (Wilber) Klahn, Virginia (Merlin) Dahl, Beverly Liebenthal, and Nancy (Ole) Karbo; his two faithful dogs, Beaux and Blackie, many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters, Jean (Charles) Bangham and Mertice (Harold) Hunt.   
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 7, 2014 at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Briggsville, with Fr. Gary Krahenbuhl presiding.  Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Briggsville.  Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass at the church.
