Marie E. Brandenburg

PORTAGE  --   Marie E. Brandenburg, age 84, of Portage/Poynette, died on Monday, April 28, 2014 at Divine Savior Healthcare, Tivoli, in Portage. 

Marie was born on May 6, 1929 in Beloit, the daughter of Irvin and Evelyn (Kerr) Wincapaw.  She graduated from Clinton High School in 1947.  She married her childhood sweetheart, Robert Brandenburg on October 14, 1948 in Beloit.  Marie and Robert were foster parents for eight years and had over 228 foster children.  They moved to Mauston in 1982 and returned to the Poynette area in 1996.  Marie enjoyed her word search books and was a very creative crafter.  She often would create her own plastic canvas patterns, which were displayed in her room at Tivoli.  People would stop in just to see her craftwork.  

Marie is survived by her children, Randy (Diane) of Lodi, Larry, Brenda (Bill Thomm), Briggsville, Jeffrey (Margaret), Scott (Victoria) and Terry; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; her niece, Phyllis Pennycook, her nephew, Phillip Van Landingham, other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert, her brothers, Russell Wincapaw, and James Wincapaw and his wife Johanna, her sister Marguerite Van Landingham and her husband Richard Van Landingham.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2014, at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Poynette with Rev. Tom Countryman officiating.  Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, SouthernCare Hospice, or Tivoli.
